Ahead of the release of "Descendants: Wicked Wonderland" on July 16, Disney has released the full film version of the song "Perfect Princess" that was originally performed for the first time live on American Idol Season 24's Disney Night back on April 20.
"Perfect Princess," sung by Kylie Cantrall (Red), Malia Baker (Chloe), Liamani Segura (Pink), and various background members of the "Descendants: Wicked Wonderland" cast, appears to be the opening song of the film itself, as it dives right into some of the consenquences of the time traveling and altering of the past that occurred in 2024's "Descendants: The Rise of Red," which include perhaps most notably of all the fact that Red's mother, the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), is now very nice and is looking out for Red at every chance she gets.
Regarding the song itself, it carries this upbeat pop tone, which helps to really drive home the fact that, because of Red and Chloe's actions during "Descendants: The Rise of Red," they are now both, seemingly, living in a perfect and peaceful world, where they are both able to be their own version of a perfect princess. This is on full display with cuts back and forth to the start of the day for both Red and Chloe as they having the new realities they find themselves in through the power of an opening pop sensation of a song, filled with colorful lyrics and a unique instrumental that blends brilliantly with the lyrics as a whole.
A notable part about the song that is noticed in the video version is the fact that there are several points once they get to school where Pink is ignored. This is likely due to the fact that the dynamic between Red and Pink, at least at the begining of the film, is complicated, so it will be worth watching once the film itself premieres.
"Descendants: Wicked Wonderland" premieres on Disney on July 16 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time / 5 p.m. Pacific Time, with a release on Disney Plus set for July 17.
The film stars Kylie Cantrall (Red), Malia Baker (Chloe), Liamani Segura (Pink), Leonardo Nam (Maddox Hatter), Brendon Tremblay (Max Hatter), Alexandro Byrd (Luis Madrigal), Kiara Romero (Hazel Hook), Joel Oulette (Robbie Hood), and others.
The film is directed by Kimmy Gatewood, from a screenplay written by Tamara Chestna, Dan Frey, and Ru Sommer.
